HPBridge LMIC Grants

The HPBridge LMIC Research Grant was piloted in 2026 to support HPBridge members based in low- and middle-income countries in leading high-quality, locally relevant research in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. The pilot provided targeted funding and mentorship, with a focus on early-career investigators and projects addressing local clinical priorities. By combining financial support with access to the global HPBridge network, this grant aims to strengthen research capacity, encourage international collaboration and support more equitable participation in global HPB research. The programme was piloted in 2026. Future funding rounds have not yet been confirmed.

Olusegun Isaac Alatise

HPBridge Group 4: Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, Nigeria

Professor Alatise received support to pilot a national HPB surgery database and HPB cancer biobank in Nigeria. The project will establish important foundations for advancing outcomes research and translational HPB science in the country.
Bhandari Original

Suyog Bhandari

HPBridge Group 2: Tribhuvan University, Nepal

Dr Bhandari’s project will investigate the factors associated with recurrent hepatolithiasis in Nepal. By generating locally relevant evidence, the research aims to inform prevention strategies, refine surgical decision-making and improve long-term hepatobiliary outcomes.

Marco José Quintero

HPBridge Group 6: Hospital Universitario Clínica San Rafael Bogotá and Fundación Amigos de la Salud, Colombia

Dr Quintero’s multicentre study will validate the Timed Up and Go test in hepatobiliary surgery patients and establish a population-specific cut-off point for predicting postoperative morbidity. The project will evaluate a practical, low-resource approach to preoperative assessment that could support safer surgical decision-making in Latin America.
